Service Description
WHMIS 2015 requirements are set out in the federal Hazardous Products Act and Regulations, administered by Health Canada. Each province and territory also has its own legislation. Every worker who works with, or in proximity to, a hazardous product in the workplace must have Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training. In February 2015, WHMIS was modified to align with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The most current version of the WHMIS/GHS program, as recognized in the workplace by WorkSafe BC, is known as WHMIS 2015. The content of this course is applicable for all workplaces across Canada, including British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, and the Northwest & Yukon Territories. WHMIS Online is based on the current 2015 legislation and meets the legislated requirement for general WHMIS training. Employers must also provide workplace-specific training and instruction for each of the hazardous products in the workplace. WHMIS has come into effect with a transition period that lasts several years (full implementation by December 1, 2018). During this time, suppliers must fully comply with either WHMIS 2015 or with the “old” WHMIS (WHMIS 1998). This means that there may be hazardous products in the workplace that use WHMIS 2015 labels, classifications and Safety Data Sheets and there may be hazardous products that use WHMIS 1998 labels, classifications and (Material) Safety Data Sheets. Duration: Approximately 60 minutes. This online course is self-paced. Participants may leave the course at any time and can resume where they left off. The total course duration will vary depending on the individual learner and their prior knowledge of the subject matter. Who should take this Course? your employer is responsible for teaching you about the safe storage, use, and handling of controlled products, as well as about any onsite labeling and identification systems, the use of personal protective equipment, and safe workplace practices. This is part of the education and training requirements under WHMIS 2015.
